The Policy Development Committee provides guidance and recommendations on a number of important HIV/AIDS policies. Recent initiatives have included HIV testing, sterile syringe exchange, and HIV surveillance regulations. The group also works with staff to monitor and assess private and public policy activities on a local and national level, determines the potential impact of specific policies on HIV/AIDS services and develops position papers on prioritized areas of interest to the HIV continuum of care. Through the Policy Development Committee, the Consortium has created numerous written position statements on state and governmental policies, and has provided educational events and forums for the community and its legislators.

The Policy Development Committee’s responsibilities include:

• Analyzing and evaluating current policy issues related to the HIV/AIDS community
• Providing guidance and recommendations to other Consortium Committees, the Consortium Board of Trustees, elected officials, and the general public via position statements
• Developing strategies for legislative initiatives when appropriate
• Assisting the Executive Director in his/her role as primary spokesperson for all external Consortium communications.

The Committee’s membership consists of leaders and members in health, wellness, and disease prevention, the community at large, and nonprofit communities that have embraced the responsibility of addressing issues related to HIV/AIDS
